I draw to explain the world to myself and me to the world.
I draw to understand my reality, and to alter it.
I draw to illuminate possibility and conjure alternatives.
I draw to focus attention and rescue moments from the cacophony that makes up daily life.
My practice is hybrid. I layer pixels and ink and thread, mixing carefully observed nature with imagination and geometry, what is and what could be converge. In drawing I leave a mark. Evidence that I am here. Evidence that here is here. The practice and repetition of mark making reassures me in a world that feels precarious. I revisit imagery, building an intimacy with my subjects similar to the manner in which one knows a surrounding landscape as a child. It is both explored and created. Secrets are revealed but they change depending on how, when and by whom they are discovered.
Drawing is observation. Mine illuminates both external stimuli and inner conversation. As quantum physics tells us, the simple fact that something is observed can alter its reality. For me, it is a spiritual practice as well as a practical one.
